Emmy Winner Predictions: Best Directing for a Comedy Series

Nominees are listed in alphabetical order by show. Beware of minor spoilers for listed episodes.

Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, The Last Man on Earth (Alive in Tucson)
Louis C.K., Louie (Sleepover)
Mike Judge, Silicon Valley (Sand Hill Shuffle)
Jill Soloway, Transparent (Best New Girl)
Armando Ianucci, Veep (Testimony)

Lord and Miller are first-time nominees for their helming of the FOX pilot. C.K. is nominated for the fourth year in a row for directing his show. Judge was nominated last year for the series premiere of his show, and now he’s back for the season two premiere. Soloway is a first-time nominee for her Amazon show, and Iannucci marks his show’s first directorial bid. All five of these shows are also nominated for writing, with C.K. and Soloway also honored in that race. “Modern Family” won the last four years, so this race is wide open.

What should win: “Transparent” or “Veep”
What will win: I’ll bet on Transparent over “The Last Man on Earth” and “Veep.”
