Emmy Winner Predictions: Best Writing for a Drama Series

Nominees are listed in alphabetical order by show. Beware of minor spoilers for listed episodes.

David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, Game of Thrones (Mother's Mercy)
Matthew Weiner and Semi Chellas, Mad Men (Lost Horizon)
Matthew Weiner, Mad Men (Person to Person)

Brand is nominated for the first time since 1991 for writing an installment of the FX series, the first to be recognized. Smith is a first-time nominee for her freshman series. Benioff and Weiss are both honored for the fourth time in five years for penning HBO’s fantasy series. This year marks fifteen career nominations for Weiner, eleven of them for “Mad Men.” He has won three times. This is the third nomination for Chellas. “Mad Men” has won this award three times, and several series finales have taken home this trophy in the past.

What should win: “Lost Horizon” or “Five-O”
What will win: I’ll go with “Person to Person,” the series finale of Mad Men.
