What I’m Watching: Limitless

Limitless: Season 1, Episode 21 “Finale: Part One!” (B+)

This episode started off from a much more comedic standpoint than where it ended, and it’s clear that things are very, very serious. Brian working at an electronic store and using tiny bits of remembered NZT knowledge to sell TVs definitely didn’t seem like the most productive use of his time, and so of course it didn’t take long for him to enlist his colleague Grover in a great adventure to figure out who, not what, Acrophan was. NZT being everywhere on the streets was a real game-changer, particularly because its effects were more dangerous than productive, with people too eagerly anticipating how it would help them to think and then putting themselves in harm’s way. Jacob Pitts from “Justified” was a natural choice to play DEA Agent Adam Brewster, though he’s a considerably different character than it seemed when he was first introduced. Sands seemed legitimately concerned that they had rounded up the entire Legion of Whom, and Brian, taking street NZT, actually thought he had made a mistake. It turns out the truth was much worse, as Sands and Brewster worked together to round up Morra’s whole posse, all of whom were guilty of collaborating to work on NZT, just not with Sands, before taking them all out and ensuring that there was no competition. Sands being on the loose with Brewster helping him is bad news, and the finale is going to be a much more intense hour than I would have expected as the good guys fight to save the day and stop the evil and conniving Sands.
