Emmy Predictions: Best Directing for a Comedy Series

The 68th Primetime Emmy Awards nominations will be announced on Thursday, July 14th. As always, chime in below in the comments with any thoughts of your own.

Last year’s nominees: Alive in Tucson (The Last Man on Earth), Sleepover (Louie), Sand Hill Shuffle (Silicon Valley), Best New Girl (Transparent), Testimony (Veep)

The competition: I’m not entirely sure where to start here. My best guess is that “Silicon Valley” is a lock to return, presumably for Daily Active Users but also possibly for Founder Friendly. “Veep” could be back for Morning After or a few other episodes. “Transparent” is a good bet for either Man on the Land or The Book of Life. Some new shows could show up, like Pilot (Casual), Episode 3 (Catastrophe), Josh Just Happens to Live Here! (Crazy Ex-Girlfriend), The Restaurant (The Detour), Pilot (Lady Dynamite), and Pilot (Scream Queens). Other possibilities include Silent Night (The Last Man on Earth), Advanced Pretend (Togetherness), and Kimmy Gives Up! (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt). I think that two episodes of a show that used to get nominated regularly in this category, “Girls,” both have a great shot: Japan and The Panic in Central Park. This year, there will be six nominees instead of the traditional five.

The predicted nominees: Pilot (Casual), Japan (Girls), The Panic in Central Park (Girls), Daily Active Users (Silicon Valley), The Book of Life (Transparent), Man on the Land (Transparent)

The predicted winner: “Man on the Land”
