Emmy Predictions: Best Drama Series

The 68th Primetime Emmy Awards nominations will be announced on Thursday, July 14th. As always, chime in below in the comments with any thoughts of your own.

Last year’s nominees: Better Call Saul, Downton Abbey, Game of Thrones, Homeland, House of Cards, Mad Men

The competition: Every one of these shows is eligible again this year except for “Mad Men.” The easy replacement would be Mr. Robot, which would be the first USA series to crack this category but shouldn’t have much trouble doing so given the universal acclaim it’s earned. I’d say that the weakest of these is definitely Homeland, whereas the rest are pretty solid and should return without a problem. The other two major contenders for the other slot are Billions and Narcos, and while I think that the latter is a superior show even though the first is also great, I do believe that the first is probably more Emmy-friendly (and it’s in English). Other possibilities include Outlander, The Man in the High Castle, The Affair, and The Americans. The Good Wife could return to this race for the first time since 2010, but I wouldn’t count on it.

The predicted nominees: Better Call Saul, Billions, Downton Abbey, Game of Thrones, House of Cards, Mr. Robot, Orange is the New Black

The predicted winner: Mr. Robot
