Emmy Predictions: Best Guest Actor in a Drama Series

The 68th Primetime Emmy Awards nominations will be announced on Thursday, July 14th. As always, chime in below in the comments with any thoughts of your own.

Last year’s nominees: Reg E. Cathey, F. Murray Abraham, Alan Alda, Beau Bridges, Michael J. Fox, Pablo Schreiber

The competition: Last year’s winner Cathey is likely to be back again, as is Fox, who has been nominated four times in the last five years and could contend for the final time for this role this year. Schreiber is also eligible again and might return. Both Abraham and Bridges have been promoted to the supporting actor field, and I doubt either will score a nomination there. Alda did not reprise his role this year. Strong contenders to join Cathey and Fox include Blair Underwood (The Good Wife), Christopher McDonald (The Good Wife), Josh Charles (Masters of Sex), John Cameron Mitchell (Vinyl), Max Von Sydow (Game of Thrones), B.D. Wong (Mr. Robot) and Jussie Smollett (Underground). They have an uphill battle given that they star on a genre show, but I think both John Carroll Lynch (The Walking Dead) and Jeffrey Dean Morgan (The Walking Dead) also have a shot.

The predicted nominees: Reg E. Cathey, Josh Charles, Michael J. Fox, John Cameron Mitchell, Max von Sydow, B.D. Wong

The predicted winner: Wong
