What I’m Watching: The Great Indoors

The Great Indoors: Season 1, Episode 16 “Aaron Wolf” (B)

Sometimes, this show makes a better case for itself than other times. I was pleased to see that we got a bonus episode after this show was off the air for a few weeks, and I think my expectations when I saw that Chris D’Elia was guest-starring were right on. I couldn’t stand him in NBC’s three-season comedy “Undateable,” and he wasn’t any more tolerable here as Aaron Wolf, Jack’s former friend and current nemesis who represented everything that was wrong with the adventure reporting industry in a totally different way than the millennials. After starting out by advertising that you should eat dragon testicles, he insisted on taking off his shirt a number of times for no reason, and managed to undo the hard work Jack had done to motivate his disciples to actually care about what they’re doing. When Mason wasn’t on board with lying to his constituents because they were using green screen, it was clear that he had crossed a line and had to go, as if needing to want to have sex with an idea for it to be good was a substantial way of measuring concept validity. Emma didn’t fall under his spell like she did for bad-boy Clark, but Brooke definitely did. I enjoyed watching Clark rise to Jack’s defense in his hatred of Aaron, hitting him and then even jumping on his back to try to take him out, resulting in the self-involved adventurer not even noticing that a human was attached to his neck.
