What I’m Watching: iZombie

iZombie: Season 3, Episode 12 “Looking for Mr. Goodbrain, Part 1” (B+)

This episode started out on a deceptively lighthearted and humorous note, with Liv eating Katty’s brains and then starting to have visions of Ravi in the middle of passionate acts with her, all while painting her skin and wearing a wig so that she wouldn’t be immediately recognizable as the zombie on the cover of the publication that the seemingly sweet Rachel actually writes for and has now used to give Seattle a heads-up to the zombie apocalypse. It was also funny to see Clive’s skin crawl every time bioterrorism was mentioned, even though he should have known that it was actually just a front to cover up the zombie outbreak. Liv being drawn to a certain bar thanks to a healthy helping of Katty’s brains had serious consequences, namely the fact that she slept with Chase Graves, an irreversible action that is all but guaranteed to ruin her relationship even if it does bring her closer to the best hope of survival in a violent society sure to come. It’s a good thing that Justin was concerned about her, however, since it helped to spare him and Major from the deadly blast that I totally wasn’t prepared for as a newly-infected Harley Jones decided not to embrace zombiehood and instead to take out all of his fellow “abominations” with a suicide vest. The most tragic part of it is that Natalie had just returned and could have made Major so happy. I’d expect a much darker focus as the show heads into its finale and then season four.
