What I’m Watching: Life in Pieces

Life in Pieces: Season 3, Episode 11 “Goose Friends Auction Fog” (C+)

I never find this show to be overwhelmingly terrific, but I keep watching because it’s mildly entertaining in a harmless way. But these four installments were all based so much on an exaggerated perception of things that it’s hard to find a way to compliment them other than to note their creative stupidity. Everything involving Clementine and Tyler’s relationship, now purely professional and domestic, has always been a relatively entertaining disaster, and I get completely that Clementine would want Jen’s help convincing Tyler that she wanted out of the band. Of course Jen would have no empathy because she’s never been dumped, leading her to get way too wrapped up in being the center of attention in the band before getting kicked out herself. It was a mildly positive reminder of her underrated Sundance film “Band Aid” from 2017 which finds her and her husband singing their fights. Heather getting jealous of Joan’s relationship with a woman she thought was similar to her and finding an older woman of her own to befriend just before her death was completely silly and unnecessary. John not wanting to be in the Dad Fog for Greg was slightly more compelling, though I don’t know why anyone in the family needed to pretend that the disgusting beer tasted good. Matt’s outlook on the world has always been a bit off, and his “signature piece” helped to explain why Tim had to work so hard to purchase his painting the year before in order to spare his feelings.
