What I’m Watching: Atlanta

Atlanta: Season 2, Episode 2 “Sportin’ Waves” (B)

I can definitely understand why this season is subtitled “Robbin’ Season” since there was a whole lot of that going on throughout this entire episode. Paper Boi getting politely robbed at the start of the episode set him in a very bad mood, one that threatened to anger him enough to violate his parole and send him back to jail. Earn’s experience double-dipping with the gift card went a lot better, though it was hilarious to watch as the no-chase policy went into effect and his guy got to walk out of there with the shoes in his hand since they weren’t going to come after him. Much of this episode was focused on Paper Boi and Earn having a big meeting with a company that could have helped to propel them to greater stardom but which predictably came with its own limitations and annoyances. Bragging about how their new technical studio didn’t have a place to play the music backfired quickly as Earn’s phone couldn’t successfully connect to the wi-fi and then e-mailing it didn’t work either, making listening to a track that shouldn’t have been more than a few minutes long turn into an endless process that managed to make Paper Boi and Earn look bad for not being up with the times. Running into people that Earn knew was a sign that he is indeed moving up in the world, even if things aren’t looking as optimistic for him or for his number one cousin client at the moment as they could be.
