What I’m Watching: Good Girls

Good Girls: Season 1, Episode 6 “A View from the Top” (B+)

Congratulations are due to Leslie, since he’s officially not the most detestable character on this show anymore, try as he might to achieve that status. Dean has officially overtaken him in that regard, giving a doctor a free car in exchange for lying to Beth about his fake diagnosis, and then trying to act controlling to Beth when he found out what she had been doing. To her credit, she’s not taking any of it lying down, insisting that he stop yelling at her and then triumphantly dumping bags of money onto him at the end of the episode and declaring that she’s not afraid of the dark. The problem that’s happening now is that both Dean and Stan are aware, to a degree, what their wives are up to, and it shouldn’t take too long for someone to put together the nonexistence of their secret shopper program which permits them to give people like the hapless security guard at the supermarket $20,000 to buy items. Stan is considerably more trustworthy and forgave his wife for lying to him much more quickly, but he’s also a far better person than the oily and pathetic Dean. Ruby rapping with her family to cheer her daughter up was a nice treat, and I hope we’ll get to see more equally heartwarming and entertaining moments like that in the future. Annie going over to Marion’s to confess what they had done only to have Marion invite her in after all that was sweet, and I’m very curious to see where that relationship will go since Leslie surely won’t be happy to learn that it’s continuing.
