What I’m Watching: Santa Clarita Diet

Santa Clarita Diet: Season 2, Episode 2 “Coyote in Yoga Pants” (B+)

What a wealth of guest stars we got in this episode, some of which we may have seen before but I honestly couldn’t remember if we had. Andy Richter was a pretty mean boss, though Sheila constantly referring to him as a baby didn’t make him any nicer. Zachary Knighton was one of the people who walked in wearing gloves while Eric and Abby were wearing gloves, and, most hilariously, Joel McHale and Maggie Lawson, who I hope we’ll see again, were the rival realtors that Sheila and Joel really, really hated. Their zeal to get the listing made them very competitive, though it was hard to top a chance to meet Johnny Depp for the actor-loving client. Opening the door so that the dog would run out and Sheila could triumphantly rescue it was a smart play, and one that helped get them far enough to realize that they had to dig Gary up right away, revealing an even more startling truth, which is that Gary’s dead head is still very much talking. Maybe when Sheila eats people, she turns them into zombies? I assume that we’ll find out soon enough since Abby pushed Eric to go ask out his hungry Rite Aid admirer. My favorite quotes from an episode full of fantastic lines were “thumbs are like the ends of the bread,” “We can’t solve all our problems with murder,” and, best of all, “we have the extra syllable because we go the extra mile.” I can’t wait for the Tuesday night dinner with Lisa and Anne which I’m sure will go great.
