What I’m Watching: Silicon Valley

Silicon Valley: Season 5, Episode 2 “Reorientation” (B+)

I don’t know that we need to see Richard throwing up every single episode this season, but this episode made it a lot more relevant than the first one. Richard’s antisocial approach to fixing the problems between the two teams that came to work with them predictably backfired, even taking out one unfortunately allergic stallion. I would have thought that he would feel about milliseconds the same way he feels about the dash-spaces debacle, but instead all he had to do was kick everyone out and do all the coding himself, inspiring everyone else with his serious skill and dedication to getting the work done. Jian Yang made a major power move that somehow enabled him to evict everyone from the incubator, getting a dead pig that he planned to cremate so that it would look like Erlich and assuming all of his debts in order to take over his estate. I love that Dinesh got a Tesla, a purchase that Gilfoyle instantly had to mock by buying the cheapest electric piece of crap off Craiglist just so that he could take his valued parking space. Driving into the bike lane was a smart move, but it also made Dinesh enter insane mode and crash to the tune of $17,000, prompting him to ask an important question about just how much one-upping Gilfoyle was really worth. Having Bansky design and sign his Gavin Belson signature on the Gavin Belson Signature Box was hilarious, and it was hardly surprising that Gavin’s real signature was conclusively indicative of sociopathic tendencies.
