What I’m Watching: Will and Grace

Will and Grace: Season 10, Episode 2 “Where in the World Is Karen Walker?” (C+)

I was a bit confused at the start of this episode since we knew from the season finale that Will’s mother and Grace’s father were getting married, but there was no mention of it in the premiere last week, and for whatever reason, we didn’t get to see them actually have the ceremony, which probably would have been entertaining. Instead, this half-hour was sort of all over the place, skipping through time as Karen went missing and the gang thought that it might be because Stan had her killed. Naturally, the big payoff was just that the alleged detective who had been questioning them and paused for a big gasp was in fact a process server giving Karen her divorce papers. Alec Baldwin is endlessly entertaining as Malcolm, and learning that he made an easy $5,000 by telling Stan who was sleeping with Karen when that incriminated him only added to his warped view of the world, which actually jives pretty well with how Karen experiences it, totally disconnected from reality and only encountering those who are secretly poisoning their father-in-laws. We didn’t see any more of David Schwimmer’s curmudgeon as Grace continued her campaign, and Will spent far too much time painting on his beard. Jack talking on the phone and admitting what he was actually doing and thinking after repeatedly denying it was fun, and maybe this ill-advised relationship with Estefan isn’t totally terrible for the comedy payoff it can occasionally and tangentially deliver.
