What I’m Watching: Jane the Virgin

Jane the Virgin: Season 5, Episode 4 “Chapter Eighty-Five” (B)

There are certain characters on this show who I just wish would die, and Magda is at the top of that list. She’s never contributed particularly positively, and in this case she was literally just taking up space and causing problems for Petra. I’m glad that, after all of her antics trying to reach Jane for relationship advice and having to deal with her mother handcuffing her, she decided to still go see JR and win her back in the most spectacular way. I think Rosario Dawson has been a great addition to this show, and I’m glad to see that she’s back after her apparent exit at the beginning of the season. Michael is so much more bearable now that he’s Michael again, and it’s probably for the best that he didn’t get on the bus back to Montana since that would have left Jane feeling completely unresolved. Rafael “getting his memories back” wasn’t quite as literal but still proved disastrous enough to compel him to ask Jane to leave, a step that is enormously destructive, far worse than Jane’s tea nightmares, and it makes me think that there’s very little hope left for #teamrafael. In similarly, or perhaps even more, devastating news, Xiomara used all of her energy to do a cute dance with Mateo and then now might be in serious trouble health-wise. Alba’s unrequited affection for Jorge pales in comparison, but it’s still sad to see the eternally supportive and happy great-grandmother look and feel so dejected.
