What I’m Watching: Life in Pieces (Season Premiere)

Life in Pieces: Season 4, Episodes 1 and 2 “Jungle Push Resort Anniversary” and “Demo Nosebreath Surgery Match” (B-)

It’s about time that this show, which aired its third season finale eleven months ago, returned for its latest round after not being on the schedule for a while and still awaiting any news of a renewal which would likely be announced in the next couple of weeks. I’m always enjoyed this show even if I don’t always find it to be great, and these first two episodes affirmed that sentiment. The anniversary trip to the jungle was a huge disaster, thanks in no small part to the panicked attitude of the host, played by Nat Faxon from “Ben and Kate,” frantically searching for his wife. It wasn’t much of a surprise that Colleen, the one least immersed in Short family history, would score a fancy hotel room for them to enjoy instead of suffering among the bugs and bats, and that ended exactly the same way I expected it would. Episode two was more fragmented in the way that this show usually is, with Jen’s inability to stand – or, more accurately, stomach – pretty much everything that Greg did as the best and most relatable of the vignettes, most successful because of Zoe Lister-Jones’ facial expressions. I thought that it was Joey King playing the most obnoxious pregnant teenager ever, though for some reason I didn’t expect her to be showing up on this show as “The Act” was also airing, which doesn’t make much sense, especially since these episodes were likely filmed long ago.
