What I’m Watching: Veep

Veep: Season 7, Episode 3 “Pledge” (B)

This show continues to mock real-life current events with its depiction of politics that match the masses. The fact that Selina could help her image best by telling a trailblazing female candidate to “man up” is absurd, and sadly it’s one of the closer things to the truth that’s been presented on this show. After Selina asked him to break the clean campaign pledge that she accidentally suggested she was going to follow, Tom was rather underhanded in the way he brought up Senator Oluwakemi’s past actions and then threw Selina under the bus next. I guess the big joke is that Governor Calhoun can never get a word in, something that might go better for him if he was in the debate for candidates polling between five percent and statistically insignificant. As if Jonah’s proposed commercial wasn’t bad enough, the fact that he was able to make those skilled in sensitivity training, one of who was played by Katie Aselton from “Casual” and “Legion,” scream and cry was pretty horrible, and I think he even bested Denis Leary’s crews when they did something similar on both “Rescue Me” and “Sex and Drugs and Rock and Roll.” Mike’s incompetence knows no bounds, though what he did while on drugs wasn’t entirely his fault. Andrew, for as terrible a person as he is, is truly an entertaining character, particularly in his delivery of lines like “I thought we both understood that I was lying.” Amy got to be angrier than she’s been in a while, and I don’t think I’ve ever seen such a brutal takedown of abortion clinic protestors.
