What I’m Watching: Black Monday

Black Monday: Season 2, Episode 5 “Violent Crooks and Cooks of Books” (B)

Mo knows how to make an entrance and show up exactly when it’s most opportune for him, but Dawn has learned a lot too about how to get what she wants. Perhaps more accurately, like Mo, she knows how to make sure to stop someone else from getting what they want when it’s happening in a way that doesn’t make her happy. Getting all the money they could possibly need to pay Larry back after he triggered his “Pants on Fire” clause was actually pretty easy since the pastor, played by Michael Hitchcock from “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” and “Trial and Error,” was ready to just give them whatever they needed. But Blair getting all the credit after she was once again mistaken for a famous black woman was too much for her to take, and she derailed it right away by emphasizing just how close Blair was with the pastor’s son-in-law. Mo had the perfect solution for them, but we got a bit more clarification in the form of a flashback revealing that he wasn’t doing anything out of the goodness of his heart or even just to score a big payday. I’m sure he’ll find a way to screw over his law enforcement shadow, and will likely throw both Dawn and Blair to the wolves in the process. Keith’s brief prison stint complete with a musical number was absurd in the way that this show often is, and his partnership with Larry should be interesting and mutually beneficial. This show is going to air just one more episode until production can resume, so we’ll see how the rest of it plays out whenever the last four installments do eventually air.
