Take Three: Run

Run: Season 1, Episode 3 “F**k” (B+)

This show continues to play out in an unexpected way, refusing to address all of its major issues right away. That voicemail greeting Ruby heard at the end of the previous episode indicates that, even if she went home immediately and abandoned her plans of permanent uncertainty, getting back to normal wouldn’t be so easy. But, of course, she and Billy don’t want to talk about everything, and instead they decided to stay in a $1200 hotel room for the night after running a few errands. I was excited to see Archie Panjabi from “The Good Wife” in a very different role as the woman who Ruby ran into on her shopping trip, and it was even more enticing to see her again when she showed up to greet Billy since she was Fiona, his assistant, who somehow tracked him to where he was and managed to get there in time to find him shortly after he arrived. She doesn’t necessarily know the extent of what’s going on, but she seems determined to find out, and it’s surely going to be trouble for both of them. Like in the first two episodes, the sexual tension that exists between Ruby and Billy is very high, and that’s only starting to be realized now that they’re not just in a sleeper car when they keep hitting every part of their bodies on something and they can enjoy the full luxury of being able to spend some time alone together in a fancy hotel room.
