What I’m Watching: The Flash

The Flash: Season 6, Episode 17 “Liberation” (B)

I wasn’t sure if I had missed something at the start of this hour with the machine being tested, but it turns out that’s just one of the many threads this show is trying to address at the moment. At least we got some clarification that Singh has also been captured and replaced by Eva, and he and the other two loyal servants were awfully creepy as they expressed their dedication to “Mother.” It was convenient to have the two main scientists, Cisco and Caitlin, preoccupied with her own unexplained transformation into a gravely ill frosty question mark while Barry showed Cecile his seemingly crazy theories about who Iris was. It was definitely clever that Eva exchanged the machine Barry was going to use to prove that Iris wasn’t Iris with one from her mirror dimension, which then showed Barry as the impostor. Fortunately, Cecile realized that something didn’t feel right and set Barry free, though it was too late to stop Eva from being able to break out into the real world. After Evil Kamilla sacrificed herself, Ramsey didn’t seem ready to break out of prison, making him an eventuality to return, something that could be good for the show but feels like a strange contract to set up with actor Sendhil Ramamurthy, who is now starring on Netflix’s “Never Have I Ever.” Eva was clever to set up the insurance policy of her three hostages being trapped in the mirror with no way to get out if Barry tried to stop her, and it’s not going to be easy for Barry to figure out a way both to beat her and save Iris and the others.
