Emmy Catch-Up: Pose

Every year, I watch the six submitted episodes of every series I don’t regularly watch that’s up for one of the Emmy series prizes. This year, I’m getting a jump start to check out the entire season of some of most high-profile shows I didn’t watch when they originally aired.

Pose: Season 2, Episode 8 “Revelations” (B+)

We’ve seen characters get mad at each other in the past, primarily the trio of house parents, Blanca, Elektra, and Pray. This is the first time that I can remember that there was real conflict among the members of House Evangelista, with Damon and Angel at each other’s throats and plenty of tension as everything got extremely heated and spiteful. Damon has had other incredible opportunities that haven’t quite materialized before, and maybe he will actually be able to go to Europe and return with a new outlook on life. Angel was right to confess what she had done to Blanca, and while moving into her own place means that she’ll no longer be subject to anyone else telling her what to do, recognizing that using drugs threatened to really set her back should hopefully set her on the right path. Pray couldn’t hide the fact that he was happy about a new relationship from the others at his meeting, and that news has now traveled very fast. It was most interesting to see how Elektra reacted to it, admonishing him for sleeping with one of his children and doing more than just watching the drama play out or harshly offering her own brutal take on it. At least the relationship that’s now formed between Pray and Ricky seems to be good for both of them if they can avoid the intrusive eyes of others, and Pray seems to be truly happy for the first time this season, now able to open up to someone else in an intimate way.
