Emmy Predictions: Best Guest Actor in a Comedy Series

The 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards nominations will be announced on Thursday, July 14th. Chime in below in the comments with any thoughts of your own.

Last year’s nominees: Will Arnett (30 Rock), Jon Hamm (30 Rock), Neil Patrick Harris (Glee), Mike O’Malley (Glee), Eli Wallach (Nurse Jackie), Fred Willard (Modern Family)

The competition: This category has been dominated by “30 Rock” for the past three years with a grand total of nine nominations, ranging from two to four mentions each year. I’m predicting two for this year – John Slattery and Ken Howard – but there are plenty more that could make the cut, including past nominees Alan Alda, Will Arnett, and Jon Hamm or Matt Damon, Will Forte, or Paul Giamatti. They’ll face tough competition, of course, from the likes of Jim Carrey (Saturday Night Live), Will Ferrell (The Office), John Lithgow (How I Met Your Mother), and Darren Criss (Glee). I’m not sure how “Hot in Cleveland” will play with voters aside from their love for Betty White, but if it’s popular, veterans Carl Reiner and Tim Conway, who already have eight Emmys for acting between them, could seriously contend. Also look out for past winner Justin Timberlake (Saturday Night Live) to potentially repeat for hosting the show again.
