What I’m Watching: Ted Lasso

Ted Lasso: Season 2, Episode 7 “Headspace” (B+)

I’m enjoying how this show is beginning to spend beyond the football club and into the personal lives of its characters, with this episode very focused on Keeley and Roy’s home dynamic. Roy seemed very oblivious to the fact that he was crowding Keeley and not giving her space, and the fact that she wanted to jump him when he did exactly what she told him to do didn’t help matters at all. I loved that Rebecca and Higgins scatted to cover talking about him, and that later in the locker room they all readily admitted that’s what they were doing. He didn’t react well to Keeley blowing up at him while she was watching TV, and it was very entertaining to see him realize what he needed to do when Jamie was arguing about the coaching he was giving him. Ted was quite terrible at therapy, spending a few awkward minutes trying to get comfortable on the couch, and while I don’t always love the moments when Ted gets serious because he’s experiencing a panic attack or something similar, I do think the dramatic exchanges between him and Sharon are superb. I do wonder what Trent Crimm is going to print about Ted’s reason for walking off the field, since I can’t imagine it’s going to be positive or too forgiving. I’m not loving the direction that Nate is going, seeming to respond well by apologizing after Beard gave him a stern talking-to but then chewing out the poor replacement kit man because he saw one negative comment online about him still being a loser. I guess I hadn’t previously realized that Sam didn’t know who he was chatting with either, and I’m both excited and extremely nervous for when he and Rebecca finally decide to meet in person.
