Emmy Predictions: Best Directing for a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie

The 74th Primetime Emmy Awards nominations will be announced on Tuesday, July 12th. As always, chime in below in the comments with any thoughts of your own.

Last year’s nominees: Hamilton, I May Destroy You (Ego Death), I May Destroy You (Eyes Eyes Eyes Eyes), Mare of Easttown, The Queen’s Gambit, The Underground Railroad, WandaVision

The top contenders:
Come from Away
Dopesick (The People vs. Purdue Pharma)
The Dropout (Green Juice)
The Dropout (Iron Sisters)
The First Lady
Gaslit
Inventing Anna (The Devil Wore Anna)
MAID (Sky Blue)
The Offer (A Seat at the Table)
Scenes from a Marriage (The Illiterates)
The Staircase (911)
Station Eleven (Unbroken Circle)
Station Eleven (Wheel of Fire)
Station Eleven (Who's There? )
The Survivor
Under the Banner of Heaven (Blood Atonement)
Under the Banner of Heaven (Church and State)
Under the Banner of Heaven (One Mighty and Strong)
Under the Banner of Heaven (Revelation)
We Own This City
WeCrashed (This Is Where It Begins)
The White Lotus
Zoey's Extraordinary Christmas

The rundown: The last straight TV movie to be nominated in this category was also directed by Barry Levinson, and he should return again for The Survivor. Since “Hamilton” got in last year, it’s possible the filmed stage version of Come from Away could too, but it’s likely that the rest of this category will be populated by limited series. Dopesick, The Dropout, MAID, The Staircase, and The White Lotus are at the head of the pack, while Under the Banner of Heaven or Station Eleven could do well if voters can choose from the multiple submitted episodes.

The predicted nominees: Dopesick (The People vs. Purdue Pharma), Green Juice (The Dropout), MAID (Sky Blue), 911 (The Staircase), The Survivor, The White Lotus

The predicted winner: I think Dopesick wins this.

Next up: Best Writing for a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie
