What I’m Watching: Desperate Housewives

Desperate Housewives: Season 1, Episode 10 “Boom Crunch” (C+)

An extra-special plane crash episode is not what this show needs right now. Most of the storylines were going pretty well, and instead of giving them a chance to play out properly, they’re all rushed with silly fights at a party and then dismayed by the big crash. No one gets a chance to find out that Karl is proposing to Bree, and presumably either Orson or Karl will be felled by the incident, in the same manner that Victor was disposed of when he was tusslPost Optionsing with Carlos during the tornado a few years ago. Lynette and Gabby’s disagreement, on the other hand, might be better off swept away with the dust. I’ll admit that the way the seemingly unconnected opening scene was revealed to have taken place, with Karl requesting the flyover and giving the man his business card, was clever and a nice way to make it seem at least somewhat relevant. The amount of craziness in Katherine is much more than I think anyone thought, and it’s actually rather disturbing to see it, which makes it lose any of its entertainment value. As I’ve said before, this show has never needed completely crazy characters, especially when it has ones with interesting stories and a great deal of shadiness behind them. It appears that the Bolen family’s problems are gone with this plane crash, but there’s still much more to be discovered as everyone keeps explaining their big, terrorism-related secret off camera. This show should be back in January; the aftermath comes then.
