What I’m Watching: Glee

Glee: Season 1, Episode 12 “Mattress” (C+)

I really can’t get behind either of the main glee club-related storylines in this episode. The high school yearbook photo arc is something that falls under the category of the glee club kids being uncool and not accepted by the rest of their classmates, and that’s not terribly interesting when they just surrender to their fate rather than try to fight back by singing their hearts out. Rachel being so into the photo was good for a laugh or two, and her less-than-subtle display of acting to impress the photographer was funny. Her getting the entire group to star in a mattress commercial was a bit over-the-top, and only really worthwhile for the ability they displayed to sell the product through their talents and collective dynamic. Sectionals are coming up really soon, and the club shouldn’t really be wasting their time doing side projects and worrying about whether their photos will end up in the yearbook or not – they should be practicing like crazy. It was nice to see Emma again, though very sad that the jealous Ken is forcing her to miss Will’s big day. Will’s reaction to his discovery (finally) that Terri isn’t actually pregnant results in him getting just a bit too angry. The good-natured character doesn’t seem capable of that kind of rage, and for him to express it so sharply just didn’t feel right. Do you agree? The last episode of “Glee” until 2010 will air next week – get ready for sectionals.

I personally don't blame him for being that angry. I mean, come on, wouldn't you be angry if you found out your wife was lying to you like that. He had every right to be that angry, and I'm glad to see he's capable of that, because I've always felt Will is a bit of a pushover (sometimes a little too stupid) so this is a side of him I was glad to see for once. He probably has a lot of bottled anger that has to come out at some time being who he is (a guy like Will can't be happy-go-lucky all the time). Will actually scared me, but Terri deserved it.

Fair analysis. I just think it seems out of character for him since he really is an obnoxious pushover.
