Emmy Predictions: Best Guest Actress in a Comedy Series

The 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards nominations will be announced on Thursday, July 14th. Chime in below in the comments with any thoughts of your own.

Last year’s nominees: Christine Baranski (The Big Bang Theory), Kristin Chenoweth (Glee), Tina Fey (Saturday Night Live), Kathryn Joosten (Desperate Housewives), Jane Lynch (Two and a Half Men), Elaine Stritch (30 Rock), Betty White (Saturday Night Live)

The competition: Of last year’s nominees, most are eligible again. Baranski and White are not, but they are sure to find themselves recognized in different supporting races this year. Joosten is back in the supporting actress field, so she won’t earn a nod here (or there). The inclusion of Jane Lynch (Two and a Hal Men) last year was likely a fluke, and I’m not sure Kristin Chenoweth (Glee) can repeat, especially facing competition from Gwyneth Paltrow (Glee) and Carol Burnett (Glee). Expect both Elaine Stritch (30 Rock) and Tina Fey (Saturday Night Live) to return for the fifth and third times, respectively. They’ll probably be joined by Cynthia Nixon (The Big C) and Cloris Leachman (Raising Hope), who was nominated in this category for six years running for “Malcolm in the Middle.” Also primed to take a spot are Susan Sarandon (30 Rock), Mary Tyler Moore (Hot in Cleveland), Frances Conroy (The United States of Tara), Queen Latifah (30 Rock), Judith Light (Nurse Jackie), Jessica Walter (The Big Bang Theory), and Celia Weston (Modern Family).

The predicted nominees: Burnett, Fey, Leachman, Nixon, Paltrow, Stitch

The predicted winner: Paltrow
