What I’m Watching: The Flash

The Flash: Season 2, Episode 19 “Back to Normal” (B+)

I like the notion that, even without his powers, the Flash can still be a hero. That’s Barry, of course, always striving to do the right thing and help others, even if he has to do it the good old human way. He also still provided hope and inspiration to Wally from afar without that fancy face-hiding speed, and he managed to supercharge himself enough to defeat the rapidly-aging teenager who was holding Harry hostage. It’s interesting to see Harry adopt some responsibility for the sins of the Dr. Wells of this earth, atoning permanently for the way that he messed up his relationship with his daughter. Jesse was a fitting substitute for Caitlin, using plenty of scientific logo and assisting in a very helpful way. I like the idea of her sticking around, especially since she and Caitlin could work well together. Danielle Panabaker did a great job playing both Caitlin and Killer Frost in the same scene, taking a cue from the Wentworth Miller school of dramatic acting to portray the latter. It’s intriguing to see that Jay, who is now fully evil, wants Caitlin to love him and is determined to make her see why she should love him, apparently by conquering more than one earth. It’s useful that he’s going to bring her back home, but bad news for our friends in Central City, who will have to band together and figure out a way to defeat Zoom for good, which could well take the entirety of the remaining four episodes of the season. And who is that man in the mask? I’m dying to find out.
