What I’m Watching: Why Women Kill

Why Women Kill: Season 2, Episode 6 “Dangerous Intruder” (B+)

There are so many layers to this show that it was hard to figure out what was going on and how many things would go wrong at that giant house in the middle of the night. I thought that Vern’s camera would surely grab a shot of Alma and Bertram sneaking around, which is still possible, and that someone other than Carlo would wake up during all of the commotion. I’m now convinced that Alma’s very clever frame job of Rita is going to come back to haunt her since there will inevitably be something that can be tied to Bertram in the evidence she left, and looking into this quiet murder may open the door for his other past crimes to be investigated. Alma also doesn’t know what we do now about the connection between Rita and Isabel, whose loyalty to her cousin makes more sense than it ever did before, and shows how Rita actually has more to keep secret than anyone knows. I’m glad that Vern took a positive approach to the news of Dee being pregnant with Scooter’s baby, and I’m hopeful that Scooter took from Catherine’s comment about how she and Rita used to be friends that she’s also just using him, prompting him to consider switching sides and telling Catherine the whole plan. It’s hard to know what’s going to happen next, which is what makes watching this juicy soap opera all the more appealing. Though many of these events feel expected in some way, the manner in which they’re presented and portrayed on this show is absolutely compelling and creative.
