What I’m Watching: Royal Pains

Royal Pains: Season 3, Episode 14 “Bottoms Up” (B+)

What a both fun and unexpectedly poignant episode this was! The staging of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” provided the perfect impetus for nearly everyone to come together and realize something important about themselves. Paige’s superstition about plays and Evan’s repeated utterance of “Macbeth” did lead to some suspicious misfortunes with the health of many of the performers, but, most fantastically, it allowed Evan to take over the role of Puck and do a rather commendable job, minus the one word he forgot that had to be called out by Paige. I’m glad that Hank talked some sense into Evan and convinced him that she should most certainly encourage Paige to take advantage of the opportunity of a lifetime and head to England. I imagine that HankMed should keep him occupied enough and that their relationship will remain solid. Raj telling Divya he met someone and then thanking her for allowing him to find love was sweet, and it’s a shame that Dr. Van Dyke just isn’t the guy for Divya. Jack and Jill (amusing now that I think about it) seemed to be having a great time out on the boat, but Jack is playing with fire by running from his illness. Fortunately, that does allow JoAnna Garcia to appear again as Nina, and I hope that she’ll stay on when Jack eventually returns and seeks treatment. Something tells me that Jill is going to get too attached and whatever happens to Jack, which likely won’t be good, will tear her apart before she leaves, if ever she actually does.
