What I’m Watching: Mad Men

Mad Men: Season 5, Episode 8 “Lady Lazarus” (B+)

It appears that sometimes, decisions can have immediate consequences, most of which seem to be positive. Megan going for a callback and getting caught in between Peggy and Don resulted in her telling Don that she felt better failing at the audition that she did succeeding with Heinz, which is truly telling. Don being okay with it was unexpected, but his decree that she could leave right away without finishing out her projects or training a new person was considerably more typical. He did look quite sad as he walked into the office with Megan for the last time, and then had to go fumble around and ask Joan what the protocol was for such a departure. Michael’s concern that Megan owed him money that she had borrowed for lunch was amusing, but her absence at the Heinz pitch, in which Peggy didn’t know her lines and Don yelled at her because he hadn’t want to rehearse since he knew his part, was far more problematic. Peggy is one of the few people that can tell Don to shut up and get away with it. Pete has managed to create a new fantasy life for himself, dangerously close to home this time since the woman lives in Westchester and he rides the train with her husband on a daily basis. I didn’t even recognize Alexis Bledel from “Gilmore Girls” until I saw the caption on the above photo. As Don becomes a new man, Pete is becoming more and more like the old him every day.
