What I’m Watching: Legends of Tomorrow

Legends of Tomorrow: Season 3, Episode 13 “No Country for Old Dads” (B+)

Ultimately, above all, this show is entertaining. That’s why it’s okay to dismiss some of the antics of this episode, namely the comedy involving Dahrk and Nora, as essential to the show’s signature style rather than relatively stupid. Ray’s kindhearted act of reincarnation didn’t go as planned for him when, after he saved Nora’s life, they took him hostage and then used him to help them track down the apparent inventor of cold fusion and stop a younger Dahrk from killing him. I remember Courtney Ford from her roles on “True Blood” and “Dexter,” both as important family members of more relevant characters, and it’s good to see her get a comedic showcase here as the daughter who didn’t want to disappoint her domination-prone father but also couldn’t stand him some of the time. Triggering the totem when it was self-sacrifice and love that compelled her to act rather than just desire to harm others was not a positive step, and it appears that she may have left an impression on Ray which could make things complicated in the future. I enjoyed watching Zari ask Sara to take the time ship for a history-altering trip in front of Ava, and I’m glad to see that their relationship is actually working out pretty well. Now that Ava has become head of the Time Bureau thanks to Grodd’s murder of her predecessor, things should get more interesting. At least Rip is back to help and Wally is officially aboard the ship to join the team and hopefully smooth over some poorly-begun relationships.
