The Great Indoors: Season 1, Episode 14 “Friends Like These” (B+)
I’m so happy that, after a brief introduction, Maggie Lawson’s Rachel is now an official part of the show, spending the entire episode trying to dig a little deeper into Jack and encourage him to open up and let her into his life. She really is a good fit for Jack, eagerly indulging in pretending to have other couples’ conversations with him, all of which ended with someone leaving to go masturbate. They’re also both people who don’t love the people they’re surrounded by, and that’s why this party ended up being a true disaster. Brooke actually wins the award for worst interaction since she decided to reveal that she and Jack had slept together when her first try at bonding – Thai food – failed. Clark showing up with a prostitute wasn’t great, and his failure to even consider it shows just how out of touch he is with the world around him. I love that Clark and Greg got along so well, to the point that Emma got mad at Greg for hanging out with him more. Paul essentially running a murder mystery about who threw his murder mystery in the trash was funny, and he continues to be immensely awkward. Mason getting addicted to the bump gum was somewhat fun, and it’s at least nice to see him invested in something. It was sweet to see the millennials show up at the end of the episode to steal Jack and Rachel’s couples-talking thing to mend faces with Rachel, and after their exit, it seems like we’ll be seeing more of this couple again soon.

What I’m Watching: Burn Notice
Burn Notice: Season 3, Episode 8 “Friends Like These” (B+)
Callie Thorne is becoming a star player on TV these days. She guest-starred on USA’s other popular show “Royal Pains” as a chef several weeks ago, and that’s in addition to her regular role as the bonkers Sheila on “Rescue Me.” Here she plays a great innocent-victim-turned-master-manipulator as the woman-in-the-wrong-place who Michael and Fiona kidnap when they snatch her boyfriend for interrogation. I enjoyed Sam’s attempts to stop her crying by pointing a gun at her as well as his less-than-effective interrogation techniques. Fiona playing nice cop was an unexpected treat, and she’s actually pretty good at it. I truthfully was on the edge of my seat as Michael and Sam discovered that Thorne’s character was actually the one in charge. Fiona’s reaction to Michael slapping her was appropriately severe, and while it’s a tragic turn for the budding couple, seeing her finally take a stand and abandon Michael until he gives up his life of wannabe spying was refreshing. Having Madeleine in on the case was also enjoyable, though it’s always better when she’s with Sam and when she has more to do. It would also have nice to see Barry and Madeleine interacting again.
It seems like it’s snuck up pretty quickly, but next week is the summer finale of “Burn Notice.” There’s plenty of good news: there are at least five episodes already in the can for the spring and the show has just been renewed for a fourth season, presumably airing next summer. Hopefully next will be an awesome conclusion/cliffhanger.
