Interview with Abe: Lisey's Story

As Emmy voting is underway, I’m delighted to share some of the interviews I’ve been able to conduct with contenders across all categories.

For Apple TV Plus’ “Lisey's Story,” here’s star Ron Cephas Jones. Watch the conversation we had for Awards Radar above.

Round Two: Lisey’s Story

Lisey’s Story: Season 1, Episode 2 (B-)

This show is definitely intriguing, but I’m not sure how accessible it really is. I’m not a horror fan so I don’t often encounter Stephen King. I did watch “The Stand,” which was considerably more violent and demon-centric, and this show is much more of a slow burn with a mix of supernatural and man-made evils. There’s no denying just how creepy Dane DeHaan is as Jim Dooley, and he’s a very talented actor I first remember from his terrific performance in “Kill Your Darlings” and from his season three role on “In Treatment.” It’s still hard to watch him because of his character’s seeming capacity for cruelty and violence, something that stands in stark contrast to the much more reserved and diplomatic Professor Dashmiel. I had the chance to interview Ron Cephas Jones about his role, and I can attest that he’s a true gentleman even if, in Dashmiel’s case, that presentation is just a front that doesn’t necessarily match his true intentions. I’m trying to figure out if Scott is made of water and therefore isn’t actually dead, though the way that he stormed out to “fix things” was very worrisome and not at all fantastical since he merely distracted from the situation and got Lisey to feel pity for him. There’s an extremely complicated relationship dynamic in this family, and though I’m not sold on this show’s direction just yet, I think I’m intrigued enough to continue watching and see if it’s headed somewhere tangible rather than just theoretical.
