Suits: Season 1, Episode 7 “Play the Man” (B+)
For someone who managed to lie his way through most of his life, Mike is getting awfully sloppy. Trying to make a deal with Kyle and settle was a fine idea, but not preparing for the case at all was a case of extremely poor judgment. He did still manage to come up with a clever notion within only five minutes, so that was impressive. Unfortunately, despite deciding to trust Jenny, tell her the whole truth, and solicit her to appear as a witness in the trial, Mike managed to disappoint the entire firm, showing Jessica that he’s naïve and soft. His final conversation with Harvey was enlightening, as he said that he was trying to decide what kind of person he wants to be, to which Harvey responded that he was a kid who asked for an opportunity and still hasn’t decided if he wants it or not. Kyle turned out to be more of a jerk than ever before, and I imagine he didn’t make a terribly strong impression in trial either. Sarah Rafferty, a.k.a. Donna, actually stole the mock trial with her dedicated acting and sarcastic remarks. Watching Jenny and Rachel meet was a sight in itself. Harvey’s tryst with Scotty was intriguing, and I was thrilled to see Abigail Spencer, an AFT Award finalist last year for her portrayal of Miss Farrell as “Mad Men,” take on the juicy part. The revelation of her impending nuptials was sad, but can a man who so arrogantly claims that a mistake made by him is as rare as Haley’s Comet expect?
