What I’m Watching: Suits

Suits: Season 2, Episode 3 “Meet the New Boss” (B+)

This episode was extremely competent on both a comedic and dramatic level. Donna and Rachel going to a bar and pretending to be Harvey and Mike was definitely its highlight. Louis and Harvey reminiscing about their days as associates was also a blast, as was Louis’ looped listening to Harvey telling him that he was the man. Rachael Harris’ Sheila really was a female version of Louis, and it was fun to see them awkwardly interact. Louis managed a terrific show of power by doing all of the associates’ work just to show them he could, and hopefully Jessica will realize his value before he finds himself a new employer that better appreciates his talents. Margo Martindale’s negotiating nurse was quite frustrated with the offers she was being given, but that’s to be expected considering Harvey and Daniel were using Mike as a go-between to compete with each other. Mike using his grandmother to garner sympathy was smart, but he was truly horrified when he saw how Harvey had abused that. Daniel’s apology to Jessica at the end of the episode only means so much, and it’s likely that he’ll continue to be a thorn in their sides for some time to come. Kudos to Rachel for not backing down and confronting Mike after he gave her a handful of compliments to put up on her dating profile, and for taking his rejection in stride and using it to motivate herself to take the bar, opting to, like him, focus on her career rather than her love life.
