What I’m Watching: Psych

Psych: Season 4, Episode 2 “He Dead” (B+)

I’ve often said that “Burn Notice” is the best summer show around, but I think I’m getting more attached to “Psych” as the most entertaining show of the summer, if not the whole year. It’s always enjoyable to see Shawn fake his way through a case, and the addition of Rachel Leigh Cook as his girlfriend is better than I could ever have imagined. Her appreciation of his psyching faking (“When he embellishes, I know he cares”) and attempts to bond with his father (“You’re not bald, you’re just taller than your hair”) are truly fun, and I’m looking forward to further interactions between her and Shawn and anyone else on the show. She’s hardly a distracting presence, and I’ll be happy to see more of her in the future. The case of the week is a hoot in the way that Shawn gets to explore high society and embarrass himself repeatedly. Christine Baranski’s guest turn is amusing, and it’s a treat to see a client actually fire Shawn when he threatens to accuse them of murder. I’ve decided that I’d like to collect some of the best quotes from each episode at the end of my reviews.
