What I’m Watching: Ugly Betty

Ugly Betty: Season 4, Episode 8 “The Bahamas Triangle” (B+)

A trip to the Bahamas, however odd it may seem with snow falling outside during this time of year, is a nice vacation for the employees of Mode that provides a great deal of insight into all of the characters. It’s very fun to see all of the roles reversed, with Betty acting as Wilhelmina’s assistant and Marc as Daniel’s matchmaker. Amanda continues to be a delight, with the donning of her office-inappropriate bathing wear in front of Matt, racing Betty down the water slide, and telling Matt that she wants to rip her own clothes off. It’s too bad that she and Matt didn’t work out, but at least she’s able to show some maturity to allow Matt to be happy. Betty’s idea at the start of the episode was very entertaining, with the black-and-white footage of Betty in the role of the woman who dared to wear her bathing suit. Matt’s proclamation of his renewed feelings for Betty was great, and it’s so nice to see them happy again. When I first saw Connor emerge like Daniel Craig from the water, I was positive he was a hallucination just like Santos in the second season premiere. Seeing the more sentimental side of Wilhelmina sacrificed for the sake of her career is truly compelling, and hopefully she can now spend more of her time working at Mode rather than being distracted by boyfriends and children, but without her trusted assistant. Marc working for Daniel would be terrific because he would likely be eternally sarcastic but still effective. Seeing all of the couples waking up in bed together at the end of the episode was really great, and it’s especially lovely to have Daniel and Amanda back together and have them agree that they did it right this time, because they really did, and it was superbly fun.
