Emmy Nominees: Best Comedy Series

My predictions: 5/6, picking “How I Met Your Mother” over “Nurse Jackie
Missing: “The Big Bang Theory,” “Community,” “Entourage,” “Family Guy,” “How I Met Your Mother,” “Weeds

I really like how this category has introduced four new nominees for the past two years running. The debacle over whether “How I Met Your Mother” or “The Big Bang Theory” would earn the sixth slot turns out to be irrelevant because a Showtime show no one saw coming, Nurse Jackie, took its place. I never got into it but may now go back and watch some or all of its first season. All of last year’s new entries did not return, and they all earned only a couple of minor nominations this year. The Office and 30 Rock are back for the fourth and fifth year, respectively, while Curb Your Enthusiasm returns for technically the sixth year in a row, even if the periods of eligibility weren’t consecutive. “The Office” is lucky to be here considering the lack of love attributed to its drop in quality, while “Curb” is back to considerably less fanfare than expected, with no directing nods or mentions for the reunited “Seinfeld” cast. Coming in are two new series, Glee and Modern Family, which earned seven and six acting nominations, respectively, and will duke it out to see who can dethrone “30 Rock” for the first time in its run.

Who should win? “Modern Family”
Who will win? My bet at this point is “Glee,” but it would be really nice if it could be “Modern Family”
