SAG Predictions: Best Male Actor in a Drama Series

This year, the Screen Actors Guild announces its picks one day before Golden Globe nominations are revealed, which means less for TV than it does for movies. The most distinctive aspect of the SAG TV prizes is that lead and supporting thespians are grouped into one category. Here are my best guesses for this category, which will be announced on Wednesday, December 14th.

Last year’s nominees:
Steve Buscemi (Boardwalk Empire)
Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad)
Michael C. Hall (Dexter)
Jon Hamm (Mad Men)
Hugh Laurie (House)

There’s one slot open this year since Jon Hamm isn’t in the running since “Mad Men” didn’t air in 2011. Most likely to take his place is eight-time SAG nominee Kelsey Grammer (Boss), making his first appearance in the drama category after losing each of his consecutive comedy actor bids for “Frasier.” Also in the running are Timothy Olyphant (Justified) and William H. Macy (Shameless), and from the supporting slate, Emmy winner Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones).

Current predictions:
Steve Buscemi
Bryan Cranston
Kelsey Grammer
Michael C. Hall
Hugh Laurie
