Weeds: Season 5, Episode 4 “Super Lucky Happy” (B)
This show has occasional episodes which do nothing to push forward the central dramatic plotline but serve as somewhat standalone, entertaining installments. Silas and Doug’s business venture takes another step in the right direction, but it’s looking like their public official contact is going to be a bit more of a paint than they imagined. Celia shows up to unfriendliness from Nancy, but it looks like she’ll be sticking around since she doesn’t really have anywhere to go. Andy’s side plotline is wholly unexpected, and fairly hilarious. He tries to get his hands on Judah’s inheritance, but ends up talking to Judah’s ex-girlfriend whose heart he broke and who is willing to help Andy if he dates her, pretending all the while to be Judah. That should turn out to be interesting, though hopefully Andy will be soon welcomed back into the fold – the main plotline. Esteban meeting all of Nancy’s family was amusing, and I particularly liked his reaction to Andy. This episode was, of course, driven by Mary-Louise Parker, who fueled Nancy’s frustration with having to deal with two men who wanted to kill each other by turning to a magic eight ball. My favorite moment was them kicking each other and Roy got a little too excited, prompting the other guy to throw in the towel. This show, even if it can’t get very far very quickly, knows how to be funny.
