What I’m Watching: Glee

Glee: Season 1, Episode 11 “Hairography” (B)

I’m having trouble getting completely on board with Will continually having ideas that are clearly doomed to embarrassing failure at their very inception. He should know well enough that hairography isn’t the way to win, and he’s much purer and nobler than that. Rachel isn’t supposed to be some wise sage who always knows what’s wrong and what’s right, and the show seems to be shaping her that way. It also appears that the only character with a shred of intelligence on this show is Quinn, and she’s turning out to be quite the remarkable girl. She deserves enormous props for calming down Kendra’s kids with the groundbreaking idea of a live music video, and her search for the right father in Puck shows her attempts to become more mature and mold a real family. The revelation that Puck was “sexting” during their entire babysitting affair is a disappointment since it really seemed like things were working, and it’s a good thing she’s changed her mind about keeping the baby since Terri won’t be able to keep a pillow in the middle of her bed to fend off her husband forever. The guest-starring schools each showcased great performances, but it’s a bit of a disappointment to already get a glimpse of their competition before the big event (presumably happening in two weeks, before the show goes on hiatus for a few months). The fact that Sue is in fact leaking the lists of songs to their competitors was an intriguing surprise, and hopefully Will has a few more tricks up his sleeve so that they don’t get sent back to the drawing boards with what seems like copycat numbers at sectionals. This group has already been through more heartache than the cheerleaders from “Bring It On” who ended up in a similar situation, and they just don’t need that. Rachel’s “Grease” look was a bit freaky, but getting the chance to see Kurt talking honestly to both Rachel and Quinn was well worth it. Having Rachel and Kurt now as semi-kindred spirits is also a boon for the club since most of its members really just don’t like each other, and having some of them get along is sure to help them in the long run.

I guess I'm writing too many reviews in too short a time :) Come to think of it, I know a Matt Shuster; I guess my mind slipped. Thanks for the correction.
