What I’m Watching: NCIS

NCIS: Season 7, Episode 17 “Double Identity” (B+)

Cases of double identity are always interesting, especially when the mystery person in question is unable to defend himself or explain anything due to unconsciousness. It reminds me of that “House” episode where a building collapsed and the woman who survived turned out not to be the one they thought. In this case, two angry wives who believe fully in their husband, who is in fact the same man, help make tensions high and the case far more intriguing. The various twists and turns of the episode with who actually knew the secret identity of the marine provided some extra suspense and surprises. The interactions of the team, however, still continue to be the strongest part of the show. While both Tony and McGee were fairly oblivious to Ducky’s change in behavior, it’s touching that Ziva and Abby took notice and wanted to help find out what was wrong. The subtle shift in the style of tie that he was wearing (long instead of bow) was an impressive thing that they picked up to realize that something was up. The death of Ducky’s mother is in many ways a monumental event, but she was rarely mentioned, especially because Ducky usually keeps to himself. Her death is treated carefully, and it’s really nice that Abby is the one who comes and visits Ducky at the cemetery as he is going to privately mourn. It’s always a blessing to see into the personal lives of the characters, especially those less frequently spotlighted.
