Psych: Season 4, Episode 15 “The Head, the Tail, the Whole Damn Episode” (B+)
This episode had a fun focus because it showcased Lassie’s determination to, as he put it, out-Spencer Spencer. The vicious treatment of Lassie by the press was funny, but nowhere near as fabulous as Shawn’s impression of Gus being scared of a dead body and his ardent refusal to accept Gus’ desire to be called “Guts,” claiming that it was too close to Gus. It’s great to have Kurt Fuller in a recurring role as the entertainingly strange coroner, and I do love how well he and Shawn get along and how he too calls Lassiter Lassie. Henry said it best when he pointed out that Detective Dipstick just rolls right off the tongue. I enjoyed Henry yelling at Shawn for pretending to be a psychic in front of him and also Lassie’s assertion that fishing was one of his top skill, right behind skee ball. Juliet threatening to shoot Lassie if he continued telling her to shut it was also a fantastic moment. This is a glorious day for sci-fi, with both Michael Hogan from “Battlestar Galactica” and Jeri Ryan from “Star Trek: Voyager” guest-starring. Hogan made for a great surprise villain, and Ryan was so uncharacteristically energetic and flirtatious in a wonderful way. I hope she sticks around for a bit on the show, but I doubt that will be true. Shawn’s classification of her was amusing when he spoke to Henry about him and his “doctor lady friend.” Another classic moment was Shawn yelling into a microphone because he can’t do the nails on a chalkboard effect using a whiteboard.
