Round Two: Manhattan Love Story

Manhattan Love Story: Season 1, Episode 2 “In the Mix, On the Books, and In the Freezer” (C-)

So much for second chances. Which this episode isn’t any worse than the first installment, it offers nothing of value and shows that this series just isn’t meant to be. I keep thinking back to a show called “Free Agents,” which starred Hank Azaria and Kathryn Hahn, two ordinarily fantastic actors, and lasted a total of three episodes because it was just that bad. I look forward to seeing whatever Jake McDorman and Analeigh Tipton do next – I have no doubt that she’ll have a promising career given that she’s already done a good deal over the last few years, and I hope the same for him. As far as this show is concerned, it really does seem very isolating to feature only this couple trying to get together, and I don’t see how that can constitute an entire series. Their misadventures in this episode were rather predictable and possibly timed a bit early on in the run of this show (not that it has a bright future ahead of it, so I suppose they should get the more monumental storylines out of the way first). Peter’s inability to see the issue with dating other people and Dana’s unfortunate lack of success in scoring a promising date of her own were only compounded by the truly regrettable scene in which she accidentally store underwear from a lingerie store. They may be under the wrong impression that their second date went well, and I’m sad to say that this show is following the course of their miserable relationship.
