The Good Wife: Season 3, Episode 2 “The Death Zone” (B+)
This show really seems to be stepping it up in terms of the intensity and scope of its cases, firing on all cylinders and simultaneously addressing many different plotlines and characters. There were several notable guest stars in this hour, including Eddie Izzard as the cutthroat English attorney, John Doman from “Rizzoli & Isles” and “Damages” as his plaintiff, and Michael Kelly from “Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior” and “The Adjustment Bureau” as the slippery Mickey Gunn who enlists Eli’s services. Will is about as skilled in British court as he is in military court, but fortunately Alicia does a much better job, prompting an amusing comment about Will having American Revolution fantasies. It’s hard to believe that Eli and Kalinda haven’t met, but what a superb pair they make, messing up initially but then rebounding with an impressive show of power to Gunn. I do hope that Eli’s musings about recognizing her from somewhere don’t turn into anything, but I also assume that she’ll be more than compliant considering they’re not so different as people. Zach asking Peter why Alicia kicked him out finally gives Alicia a major win in their separation, garnering some sympathy for Alicia and some worry about whether he’ll turn out just like his father. Diane going in to pitch the firm to Peter created an interesting problem that gets Alicia directly involved in a way that even Diane thinks she shouldn’t be, prompting her to get Will to agree that they’ll let Alicia go if she works against them.
