What I’m Watching: Sons of Anarchy

Sons of Anarchy: Season 4, Episode 2 “Una Venta” (B+)

It seemed almost too peaceful to have that opening scored ride with the club riding to meet the other charter, though the frequent interspersions of Clay getting shots in his hands were a constant reminder that everything isn’t entirely sunny in Charming. Just as things were beginning to settle on the home front, the other charter complicates it all once again with dealing drugs taking center stage as a new and refined issue. Before they got to the punishment stage and then the reveal of the vote that supported continuing dealing, they did pull off one rather impressive way of losing a tail, with nothing like a big explosion to ensure that someone isn’t going to follow you. On a show with many omnipresent, explicitly threatening faces, it’s the stealthier villains that pose the greatest danger. Linc tailing Gemma and introducing himself to her under a false name puts him very close to being able to pull her strings and try to manipulate her, though something tells me she won’t take kindly to that after all she went through with Stahl in the past. Going to see Otto and suggesting Bobby as the culprit who killed his wife is another way of planting a frightening seed that might eat SAMCRO from the inside. Gemma involving Tara in the park project may also incriminate her, and I’m intrigued by the conversations between Piney and Tara, which now seem to present the sole voices of reason and non-violence in SAMCRO aside from Jax.
