What I’m Watching: Sons of Anarchy

Sons of Anarchy: Season 4, Episode 6 “With An X” (B+)

With barely a hint of law enforcement to be found in this episode, it’s no surprise that things got seriously out of control. I’m glad that Juice’s conscience got the best of him and he went back to get that brick himself so that the two poor probies wouldn’t pay the price and have to offer one of themselves up in exchange for the other’s life. The fact that Juice was never a suspect means that the eventual discovery of his betrayal will sting all the more, and call for even harsher measures. Juice did some quick, smart thinking in the heat of the moment, and the sight of all that blood and his pain was unsettling. Ima managed to get herself some major enemies in this hour after pulling a gun, even eliciting some severe threats from Tara. I was worried when Jax was with her at the end, but a disturbing face-smashing and subsequent spitting should do the job and drive her away. I’m considerably more worried about Tara now that Clay, increasingly explicit by the minute at this point, has tasked Romeo to have someone kill her. Unser seems to be doing all he can, including talking to Roosevelt, to try to save her life, and I hope that’s effective since her death would destroy Jax. It’s so interesting to see Tig with his daughter and to see him support her even though he knows she’s lying to him. The episode’s most memorable moments, hands-down, was Gemma’s straight-faced line advocating for the nurses killing female babies. There’s no woman in the world quite like her.
