What I’m Watching: Person of Interest

Person of Interest: Season 2, Episode 21 “Zero Day” (A-)

It’s a true sign of chaos when even the opening credits are disrupted by the fact that the machine has been hacked. Ignoring our good friend Fusco completely, this show did what a procedural like this does best and invoked its mythology, bringing back the best female recurring characters, Root and Shaw. Teaming Shaw up with Reese was a fantastic idea, and I enjoyed their barter and the fact that they actually worked well together. Seeing the two guns taped to her back in the interrogation room was among the best moments of the episode. Shaw is going to be angry when she ultimately encounters Root, and let’s just hope that she gets to her before Grace gets hurt. We’re slowly learning more and more about how Nathan met his demise, and seeing his number come up right before the machine shut off was haunting. Hearing Finch be the one to say that they can’t save everyone was strange, and it’s clear that however Nathan dies will prompt him to change his tune completely. I love the idea of Ernest Thornhill being a creation of the machine, and I’m so intrigued to see what happens now that the hard reset has been triggered, and, thanks to Finch’s quick fingers, Reese was the one who answered the call. Unfortunately, Carter is likely to need their help thanks to Terney’s frame job, and maybe Fusco will be able to step in to provide his assistance in what’s sure to be an exciting season finale too.
