What I’m Watching: The Glades

The Glades: Season 1, Episode 4 “Mucked Up” (B+)

Before I watched this episode, I considered no longer reviewing this show since there isn’t all that much to discuss about each installment, especially as compared with a serialized show like “Mad Men” or “True Blood.” I may in fact stop covering this series, as I have done recently with shows like “Warehouse 13” and “Haven” that just couldn’t capture my attention or spark enough possibility for discussion, in coming weeks as many new shows start to premiere and take over my time. This episode was a whole lot of fun, however, mostly due to Jim’s extremely charismatic nature. I enjoyed him shushing Carlos in order to better listen to their body language, and having him get a haircut from the suspected women and then talk to them about his situation with Callie was quite entertaining as well. Carlos’ episode-long Bat Mitzvah talk was funny, as was Jim’s befuddlement over his connection with the child and her family. His assertion that Carlos was already Chief Medical Examiner and couldn’t be promoted anymore had me laughing. The final scene was indicative of a surprising serious side to Jim, where he understands that even though Jeff had invited him to his birthday party, it wouldn’t be right for him to attend because Jeff’s grandmother was there and Jim might also be overstepping boundaries. It would obviously be very ideal for Jim and Callie to end up together, and they’re not far away from that at this point, though it will take some time for her to come around to being okay with it.
